1. PR Practitioners Changing Business Models?

A potential client said that hourly billing and retainers were not in “vogue” with business owners.  She said business has changed drastically and — to compete in the new landscape — a PR practitioner has to:

    1. offer “packages” (think value menu) with guaranteed results - X dollars = X amount of placements

    2. offer pay-for-performance equating each media placement to a dollar value - a news story on the front page of The Wall Street Journal business section = X

Traditionally, one got compensated for the time it took to nurture media relationships while building trust and rapport.  So, is this right?  Is the PR industry gravitating towards a pay-for-performance or a package model with results guaranteed?

Are PR professionals en masse — practitioners or firms of any size — radically changing how they offer and price their services to reflect a shift in marketplace mentality and/or economy?

Former WebLink Wireless exec Dave Swift on Randy Myers:  ”Randy is by far the best cold caller I’ve run across in over 30 years of managing sales forces.  He’s great for turning over the rocks and finding just the right people.  He’s great for beating the bushes — getting to the decision maker — and getting sales!”
